[Evolution] Gnome Calendar broke my Evolution calendar!

A couple of days ago my Evolution calendar stopped working.
it was just crashing or access or something, I didn't get too involved
as I was probably doing something wrong, or it was a update clash, sadly
I wasn't paying too much attention, but whatever it was, it isn't the
point of my email.

I decided to bring in the trusty old gnome calendar program to view (and
add to) my evolution calendar (~/evolution/local/Calendar/calendar.ics
assuming it was in a standard format.  Everything opened up fine, I
edited the calendar and saved it.

Upon updating Evolution today and finding the calendar working again I
noticed none of my calendar events, or calendar todo list items
appeared.

I did a little test to try and show what's changed in the files..
I deleted my calendar.ics file so evolution created me a new blank one,
which I then added a couple of test events to.
I then opened this in Gnome Calendar and immediately saved it under a
different file, and produced a diff of it (see bottom of email)

The layout seems quite different but the structure is very similar
(version 1.3.1 under gnomecalendar and version 2 with evolution).

I beleive evolution doesn't seem to be understanding the version 1.3.1
format and just ignoring the whole lot (strangely ignoring my tasks too,
which aren't stored in there, they are in
~/evolution/local/Tasks/tasks.ics if you want to know which I'm talking
about)

I can't seem to find where to import this file format, or how to change
it so evolution will import it (I've tried swapping the VCALENDAR header
over).

Anybody know what to do?  there is probably a nice util somewhere to do
this, but shouldn't Evolution understand both formats?  (or am I doing
something quite magnificently wrong)
