[Evolution] RE: inefficient use of space in evolution

Hello everybody!

I am also a bit worried about the use of space in Evolution. The
desire to collect three different program (mail, calendar, contact
manager) within on window means a waste of space. This is since
valuable space is devoted to gui-functions for switching between the
applications. With one window per application all available space
within the window may be used for the functionality of that specific
component. The "switching" functionality can just as well be provided
by the window manager, if each application gets their own window. My
personal opinion is that collecting several programs within one window
not only wastes space, but also imposes restrictions on the users. You
cannot e.g. look at your calendar and email simultaneously. Useful
drag-and-drop functions between the applications become difficult or
impossible to implement.

Actually I am not sure if the different applications in evolutions
will be possible to run separately. I think it would be extremely
useful. As I understand it the email, calendar and contact manager are
implemented as separate components. What is the specific reason for
collecting them in one window? Maybe someone can through some light
over this.

Actually I quite like the traditional unix way of providing
functionality with small application programs, instead of bundling
everything into a mastodont multi-purpose-handle-all windows-like
program.

Don't interpret this as if I don't like evolution. The component suite
have a great potential to be really good. What I question is the
intergration into one window.

/Magnus
