[Evolution] strange behaviour

Today, I checked my e-mail as usual. However, when I did so, evolution
crashed. I got the usual
error message "local/Inbox has crashed". The problem was however that
the mail server had too many open files, and were refusing connections
(allowing connections and then aborting them when it found out that it
had too many open files). Shouldn't evolution do something more elegant
than crash?
