I've forwarded this to a more appropriate list, there's certainly
no point arguing about it in evolution, as we have little to do
with cvs's unscalability.
There is at least one other problem with the round robin dns - that of
synchronisation. I have updated twice on more than one occasion and had
patches undone, files removed as they haven't reached all the servers yet.
So a change occurs in the main cvs repository, it gets to mirror one.
I get it from mirror one.
I update again, this time from mirror two, which doesn't have the
changes so cvs gets confused and starts removing files and undoing the
changes.
This would occur when trying to get something newly added to cvs.
I think it would be a lot better to just have the cvs mirrors list up on
the webpage and let people choose which one to use. A geographical
naming scheme would be nice...
Also, I am sure that there are problems with at least some of the
mirrors which are not solved because people just try again and get a different
mirror... also because anyone who can fix the problem probably uses the
main cvs repository for their own checkouts, so don't notice the problem.
I get a lot of connection refused and cvs hanging with anoncvs - and this
is normally "solved" by trying again and hopefully getting a different
DNS record.
Anyway, hope this can be resolved,
Rob
