Most likely, you did not specify --sysconfdir with configuring, and
you also didn't set GNOME_PATH when running, so it can't find the
.gnorba files, so the shell can't launch the components.

try

export GNOME_PATH=/usr/local
(or wherever you installed it)
evolution
