[Evolution] Evolution components

Howdy,

Sorry for repeating a question that has come up a few times
on the list, but I haven't found an answer that works for me
in the archives.

I built a May 7 update of Evolution this morning.  The shell
pops up when I run evolution, but there doesn't seem to be
any functionality.  My guess is that the components aren't
being started correctly.

Most of my stable GNOME libs are installed via RPMS in /usr.
The following, unstable, libraries are installed in
/home/john/Gnome:  bonobo, gnome-vfs, oaf, gtkhtml, and
libunicode.  Evolution is also installed in /home/john/GNOME.
(Bonobo was built with --enable-oaf=yes.)
  
I've tried running evolution with
GNOME_PATH=/home/john/Gnome:/usr, and also tried to run it
with both
GNOME_GNORBA_PATH=/etc/CORBA/servers:/home/john/Gnome/etc/CORBA/servers,
and GNOME_PATH=/home/john/Gnome:/usr set at the same time.

That didn't seem to change anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Have I done anything
bone-headed here?
