Subject: [Evolution] Praise and a few problems

To begin, I really like what Evolution has become -- great work! I have
switched to Evolution from Pine a couple days ago.

A few problems have cropped up though (I think you are aware of most of
these, but just to reiterate them):

1) The cursor seems to wander off on its own to the right. As a previous
post on the list stated, this seems to be dependent on the chosen
typeface, and possibly on the version of X used. However, no other GTK
or GNOME apps seem to suffer from the problem.

Probably because no other GNOME apps use the GtkHTML editor - however, I do
agree that this needs to be looked into a fixed if at all possible.

2) The last read mail is displayed for a given folder -- even when that
mail has been deleted and expunged. Slightly confusing; a better
strategy is to show no mail at all, I think.

I think that this is actually a good thing (except that when we go and hide
mails marked as deleted, then we should select the next message or
whatever).

3) The contact book allows for several mail adresses for a given person.
When trying to mail them, however, there seems to be no way to choose
any mail adress other than their primary one.

4) Also in the contact manager, sometimes the manager refuses to
acknowledge the input of more than one mail adress. It seems to happen
when I don't first explicitly choose 'primary mail adress' before
entering the primary mail adress. Then, when entering secondary
adresses, they disappear and do not show up in the contact list.

5) Nitpicking territory, but: Evolution does not remember window and
pane sizes, relative sizes of the fields in the mail list pane or the
choice to use small icons on the shortcut list

It doesn't remember window or pane sizes, but it *does* remember list column
sizes. Don't worry, it will remember all these sizes eventually, it's just
not a high priority compared to other things that need to get done (plus
it's not a very hard thing to do I'm sure).

Wish list:

1) It would be nice to have a filter action that pipes the chosen mail
through an external program (so we can use procmailfilters or
specialized mail filters).

You can use procmail now, no need to modify evolution filters. You can just
use fetchmail/procmail to download mail rather than using Evolution to
download/filter mail. It sure beats making the internal filter code more
complicated. Besides, making a gui for piping stuff to an external program
would be very difficult to do.

2) A dialogue to set the font and fontsize for mail list , mail view and
mail compose windows is all but necessary; the default size is too small
for people with impaired vision. I know that their size is dependent on
the theme used, but with a comfortable size for the theme, the text in
the mails is just too small.

I'll agree with that...

3) I'd like to have an option to remove the mail viewing pane
altogether, and a click on a mail would immediately pop up a separate
reading window.

You can just shrink the pane to nothingness if ya want, that's the easy way
;-)
