Unfortunately gmail contacts are not currently exposed through the gdata
API according to
http://code.google.com/p/gdata-issues/issues/detail?id=25 .

Contacts can be exported as CSV files through the gmail interface
though, so read-only functionality should be reasonably easy to
implement.
