Charles,

This seems the ubuntu apparmour configuration doesn't allow to launch google-chrome or any other browser from evince.

Check https://bugs.launchpad.net/apparmor/+bug/605586 or https://bugs.launchpad.net/apparmor/+bug/997342 for more info.

I'm not a ubuntu or apparmour user, so it those links don't help you, I suggest to ask in ubuntu or apparmour forums.
