higher zoom rates?

hello
i started to use documents from digital libraries. some libraries
scan books to very small images. the highest zoom available in
evince, 400%, is barely enough to show the text in normal width but
hard to read on screen in many cases (old german fonts and small sizes.)
could you please provide some more steps?
