I'm a bit surprised about the 25%. I think most people click Ok Ok on
the dialogs anyway, so this sort of file naming is a problem also with
IE.
Yes, I for one just click "OK OK". But at least I see the filename
somewhere. In Epiphany now, I can download a file without ever knowing
what its filename is.
I downloaded R64838.EXE from a link on Dell's website, for example.
Since I downloaded that particular file on Epiphany 1.0 (Debian), I
could see the file's name so I knew what to look for when I opened a
shell to unzip it. Had I used Epiphany CVS, I wouldn't have seen the
filename (or even known its extension), so I'd have had to look through
every entry in my home directory to find which entry hadn't been there
before.
I'll do another silly brainstorm, maybe it'll give somebody else a
*good* idea: How about dropping the *first* OK, and just popping up a
file selection dialog when the mime type isn't handled? Or how about
displaying a dialog with "Open", "Save", "Cancel" and having the
filename written somewhere on it? ("The file R64838.EXE cannot be
handled by Epiphany....")
