Re: GNOME 3.18 Release Video is public

What Siska is trying to say is that in the screenshots you sent, #3.18 is being searched just like any other word, but it's not being tokenized (identified) as a valid hashtag. In future we should select hashtags without ".", so they work as links to filter tweets/posts with the same hashtag & can even be on the trending list.

Oh yes but if you put (.) you can't search it and it won't become a hashtag. It should be #GNOME and #3point18.

I thought so too but it looks like 3.18 works! Check it out:

I'm not a hashtag expert by any means, and several people mentioned thinking the "." Would break the hashtag - maybe this is a recent improvement and dots are now supported? Not sure, but it definitely seems to work.

Siska, let me know if you see it's broken! Again, I'm not a hashtag expert, so the only way I can tell this kind of stuff is by testing it and it seems to be working for me.

Oliver published #GNOME and #3.18 separately on Twitter, so I was trying to keep parity. I think #GNOME3.18 would work though!

We should have a meeting about hashtags, in general, sometime soon. As we keep improving our social media strategy, we'll need to use them strategically and consistently!

Hi nuritzi

Would it be good if we create official hashtag for this release? Looks like #GNOME3point18 or #GNOME318 is good.

@Social Media owners - please post some variation of the Twitter post to your channel (I've included a short link):

A new release of #GNOME #3.18 will be available in less than 24 hours. Can't wait? Watch a sneak peak! https://goo.gl/goCUGr

Hi everyone,

I had uploaded it 'unlisted' to the GNOMEDesktop channel as a translation reference, but the URL was unfortunately shared on social media too soon by a translator. After some discussion in #engagement we've chosen to embrace the leak, giving the release video the role of a "preview" of what's coming up in less than 24 hours. So feel free to share the video below:

I think we can easily reshare the video after release too. I am also going to write a blog post on behind the release video tomorrow to keep the hype up. :)
