The output of lsusb -d 046d:0990 -v | grep bcdDevice is:
  bcdDevice            0.08
can't get device qualifier: Operation not permitted
can't get debug descriptor: Operation not permitted
cannot read device status, Operation not permitted (1)

I have such a Cam. For me it is working well with Ekiga 3.2.6 under
Ubuntu Jaunty. Video and also the microphone are ok. There have been all
sorts of issues under Linux with the QuickCam Pro 9000 and also the
notebook model depending on the version of cam, see
http://www.quickcamteam.net/documentation/faq/how-many-versions-of-the-quickcam-pro-9000-are-there .
Could you tell us also the output of lsusb -d 046d:0990 -v | grep
bcdDevice ?
