What distribution do you use? Because, ekiga 4.0.1 is already available
in unstable in debian.
Otherwise, your log shows that ekiga wrongly builds help directory even
if GDU is disabled. I will fix this issue, but in the meantime you can
just install rarian-compat package and redo configure and make.

Downloaded the source files from Ekiga....
During the ./config I had to get a lot of stuff Ekiga needed (i.e. apt-get )
Biggest deal was the ptlib (2.10.10) and the opal (3.10.10)
Finally, it made it through config
Then ran make....
Attached is the history....
It has to be something simple??????????
