Ah, you were probably affected by the change to not write ID3v1 tags by default. EasyTAG has logic to, when loading a file with an ID3v1 tag and ID3v1 writing is disabled, mark the file as modified. In this way, saving the file removes the ID3v1 tag.

I have added a note to the Etherpad to improve the documentation for this.
