You can already do this, by (in the preferences of Files/Nautilus) going to the Behaviour tab, and selecting “Single click to open items” under “Open Action”.

The checksum does not seem particularly useful, as the user would need to manually check that it matched with another file. What might be useful is an ability to compare two files to see if the checksums matched. If you want to suggest features for Nautilus/Files, please file a bug on Bugzilla:
