I have created a series of diagrams on Dia on my MacbookPro with your

I seriously doubt that ...

Is this possible? Do we perhaps have different versions that would not

PLease help?

We take backward and forward compatibility very serious during development. So even an older version of Dia shall be able to read files created by a newer version.

If the creating Dia version has more shapes available than the receiving version there will be a message like:
"Unknown types while reading diagram file
  Presentation - Sozi Frame"
and editing unknown shapes can not be edited. Some manual shape exchange should be able to fix this.

If there a the newer Dia version has some object properties unknown to the older version these proeprties will be silently ignored.
