Re: Dia is open source

What you *could* do is to sell an improvement-development contract
instead of selling Dia as such. Just remember:

0. Dia is a volunteer-driven project. It may or may not work under
your customer's computer (it should, a *lot* of people use it). It
may also be or not useful to your customer's specific needs.

1. In no way the Dia volunteers are obligated to you in any way, not
support, not refunds, not anything. Not even if the software fails.
You'd be actually on your own, but you can ask in this mailing list,
sometimes people know the answer to your questions.

2. You are obligated under the Dia license to always provide the
source code of Dia AND of any improvements to your customer and he
is free to redistribute either the source or your improvements again
to anyone at will. You may not impose restrictions on this. The best
is to make good-quality changes and submit them back for consideration
of inclusion in the next version of Dia.

3. I am not a lawyer, so don't take the above as legal advice. I hope
not to be missing anything.

Make sure you read the Dia license (named General Public License 2)
at the following page:

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html

You will be surprised of the terms of the license.

Good luck.

Dia is free, no cost.

How to get and use Dis:
Download it, install it, use it, contribute to its growth and progress.

You might get some benefit from telling your customer that it is not
necessary to buy Dia.

They might prefer to come back to you for other products.

Whereas, if they discover, after paying for DIa, that is was free, they
might never return to you for other business.
