Hi Len

I tried that already: With a selected box, I click on the 'I', move the mouse back into the shape and what I type appears nowhere; if I click once into the shape, the button with 'I' pops back up, which means that that function it's no longer active.

I really need this to work; and it worked in the first three shapes I ever created in 'dia'.

Hi Peter,
       I had the same interface problem but worked it out. Select a box
then click on the text cursor tool  - like a capital I shape (not the
T - that gives a free-standing text object).
