Maybe
<point ...><directions><north/><south/><west/></directions></point>
No <directions> tag at all = leave default (your version makes it hard to
differentiate "no directions open" from "use default directions"). Of
course, the question is - is such a situation (no directions, hence no
autorouting for that point) legal ? If not, your version is OK.
If that becomes an issue (which I doubt), we could add an attribute saying
that the default state for a direction is closed.
