Possible I guess that this has been fixed and not shown up in
anon. CVS, but haven't seen anything relevant in the changelog.

My mistake. This 'conditional definition' feature is available in
automake-1.5 which I use on my Box, but not on regular 1.4
installations. Got to remove it!
