That is the idea yes. "portal" library is merely a wrapper/connection to
a user-run service that essentially cannot change API. A bit of trial
and error would need to first be employed, to find a generic enough
interface suitable to never changing. Perhaps merely wrapping varags
into a dict over dbus would be enough.
