Additional work that could be done for a document centric GNOME:
1. Integrate tracker-preferences as a control panel applet, maybe with
some basic monitoring (index up to date/indexing files, time
remaining)
Indeed. Actually, there are a few things I would like to see fixed there
if it becomes an integral part of GNOME shell/desktop. Things like:
- An option to disable source code indexing (and possibly other
groups of file types)
- Improve the XDG desktop directory handling there (some issues with
multiple locations having the same path, e.g. desktop and home).
2. Pursue work on Tracker/Shell integration (basic version proposed in
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=645326 ). As proposed by
Martyn, Tracker could also be used for application search (less code
for the same features since we'd remove the current application
search).
Indeed. Adrien has done some superb work to integrate Tracker into the
shell already. I believe this week we may get the g-i work into master
(and the 0.10 releases) which will allow his GNOME shell work to operate
properly.
Also, I noticed that Tracker wasn't part of the GNOME live CD, it means
that some of the plugins on the image (i.e. for Totem, Nautilus, etc)
either don't work or aren't available. Is that planned to be improved
upon? Is Zeitgeist in the same boat here?
