After the discussion here I don't see a need for this. Anyway, to
summarize what I've read:
GNOME is a desktop system for Unix-like systems. Some {developers,
companies} write code for {Linux, *BSD, Solaris, $whatever} systems but
APIs always offer implementing $functionality for {Linux, *BSD, Solaris,
$whatever} and {developers, companies} are more than welcome to
contribute code implementations for their specific systems.
