I tried this now and removed all my .xinitrc, .basrc and .Xclient stuff
from earlier experiments, but still no dice. I get defunct processes
(gnome-volume-manager, gnome-at-visual, gnome-power-manager) on login
and the same warning about not being able to connect to the session
manager.
Maybe stuff is just broken in the devel snapshots...
