Thanks for the detailed analysis.
I think the only problem is gnome-vfs (and maybe beagle) which should be
updated for GNOME 2.23.x to handle new version of xdg cache correctly.
glib won't be a problem.
And of course, it is not a good idea to backport this version of
shared-mime-info on "old" distributions :)
