Another way to achieve this goal is to create a D-Bus interface for
this functionality (to replace the SUP) that can be implemented by any
DM.  This is one of my goals for the gobject refactoring. [1]

It would probably be better if GDM supported the following:

- GDM should be nicer about warning you that other users are logged
   in (say via XDMCP or virtual-terminals) before going ahead and
   shutting down the system.

Or possibly even remotely... we should be able to do this with more
ConsoleKit integration.
