I'd think it should be possible to save the application state in
general, not necessarily only in terms of hibernation.
If only one could trigger the save-state-on-logout for a single
application, implementing application sessions similar to Galeon would
be more simple. And also avoid the wonderful mess you currently have
wrt. workspaces and other window manager coordination (window manager
is participating only when restoring the session on login, the rest of
the time the application has to figure out all kinds of weird things
like workspaces.)
