NetworkManager requires a patched version of dhcp which may not be
available on some distros. David Cantrell, the current maintainer of
NetworkManager, has been working to persuade ISC
http://www.isc.org/index.pl?/sw/dhcp/
to accept and integrate the necessary changes into the dhcp source. I
do not know at this point whether or not David has succeeded.
Suggestion:
Include only the NetworkManager applet in GNOME-2.18.
If a disto provides NetworkManager, the applet will find it and use it.
If not, no harm is done.
Thoughts???
