I second this. Also, consider that the desktop offers only limited
space. Right now I have like 15 Icons on my Desktop and there is room
for 25 more at max. What should happen when the space is all eaten up?
Imagine a user downloading a whole bunch of packages, like say, a GNOME
update including all it's dependencies. The desktop would be full in no
time. And that could even happen without the user noticing until he
minimizes his web browser and the desktop becomes visible in all it's
horrendous clutter. Doesn't look like a clean solution for new users to
me.
