Don't these arguments apply equally to, say, gEdit or gnome-terminal?
Or Epiphany?  Would you propose removing them from the release? They
don't really need to be "integrated" in the sense that nautilus, the
panel and control-center do.

But I think removing would be silly, because a simple text editor, a
terminal emulator and a web browser are among the basic apps that form
the foundation of the desktop experience.

I happen to think that a music player/organizer is now in the same
category of bare essential system apps. One might reasonably disagree
that it is in this category. But it seems disingenous to me to claim
the category is not even relevant. What ever happened to "greatest
common factor"?
