I could be even sweeter if we used the network backend from the gnome
system tools, so it could just work on suse, debian, gentoo, and many
others
I've got a patch that retrieves interfaces from the backend XML [1], so
it's distro independent (as far as the backend supports the distro),
It's only missing the bits that store the ESSID and key in the config
file, bits that I hope to finish it this night
I'm telling this without having a full working patch yet because I
really think that this is the *way* if you want to support several
distros out of the box

[1] setup-tools-backends module in the GNOME cvs, after gst 1.0 it will
be distributed separatedly from the frontends
