All the colors currently in Glider are from the HIG palette, with one or
two exceptions that I just can't get rid of. I am very hesitant to use
colors that aren't from the palette; though I will consider these
changes.
This flat theme was just an experiment of mine. I still like the
gradients better.

I can try lightening the Basic 3D Medium color slightly.

This is a good point that I agree with. I'll experiment with it.

In the meantime, since I have a full time job and can't produce this
right away, what's to be done about the default theme decision?
