Yes, there's a "Mail Reader" tab in the Preferred Applications window.

I guess it might need to work a bit like the current Inbox Monitor
applet, just rather better :)  Would probably also work better if we had
centralised email account prefs (like the Mac), rather than having to
type them into every new email app/newsreader/inbox monitor/notification
area thing.
