There is linphone but it lacks stability.  It uses SIP so it doesn't
compete directly with gnomemeeting (yet).

Cisco at least is starting to come out with SIP phones, coupled with 
free services out there like Free World Dialup that will let one
person ring the other though the internet/have phone meetings/leave
voice mail/caller id etc.  I think VOIP is at it's beginning stages 
but it will be a big thing I think.

I think the difference is that it's about communication.  For 
instance, I believe more computers are used today for communication
(eg email, IM, netmeeting etc) than balancing your checkbook.  We 
are seeing a digital convergence in entertainment where the computer 
is the entertainment center where before it used to be the TV.  While 
it isn't full blown I think teenagers are starting that trend.  We 
should gear GNOME in that direction.
