Yes there are plans, and people following the mailing lists and the
general development are well aware of the plans. I think you could be
more courteous and spend some time reading mailing list archives before
posting questions and comments for things that have been discussed to
death many times in the past.

There's a module in CVS that has the fileselector work in it. It's
scheduled for gtk-2.4 on which GNOME 2.6.x will be based.

This project has never been managed better IMO and it's definitely not
"just a mess"

You say there's a lot of regressions in 2.4.x and from the sound of it I
get the feeling you're comparing it against 1.4.x. That discussion has
been had too many times already and I suggest you read
