Thanks very much, that did the trick. However, other Gentoo users should be aware that another patch from Portage, evolution-sharp-0.10.2-check-evo-2.6.patch, has to be disabled or it will cause the patch referenced above to fail.

I will file a bug in Gentoo bugzilla about this.
