Hi,
I've been trying to find out the current status of the i18n of Conduit and I'm having some trouble. First of all, now that the new config system has been commited, string changes are very rare now, so I think we should better support our translators. There is a patch in Bugzilla that adds more strings for translation and should be very useful. The patch is in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=568442
However, a few things I'm having trouble testing it out:
- Shouldn't we run update-po to update our translation template? It seems it is very outdated, and we should probably update it after applying the patch, but I'm not sure how are we supposed to update it (what I could do is a ./autogen.sh in Conduit folder, then go into the po folder and run make update-po. Is this right? Should I commit changes done by this procedure?)
- I'm trying to debug our translated strings with podebug ([1] and [2]). I was able to create the debug po files, but I have no ways to test it. The automake tools can't install it because it is in a different charset, and running Conduit uninstalled would only load the translation file if it was inside a po/language/LC_MESSAGES/conduit.mo folder, but that folder structure is only created with make install. Any sugestions?
What I want to do is to test the bugzilla patch to check our translation coverage and fix eventual problems, so I can provide better feedback in the bug. But my lack of experience in autotools and gettext is creating some difficulties.
Any help?
Regards,
Alexandre Rosenfeld
