I had used it long ago for gstreamer.

Is there any documentation regarding this?

Maybe .jhbuildrc and .modules ?

I don't know the purpose you want to compile cheese on your own.

If you just want to build cheese, you can use JHBuild ( https://developer.gnome.org/jhbuild/stable/ ).
