automatic photo taking

When opening Cheese, the program will start the countdown and take a photo, then do the count down and take another (and so on).
The only way to stop it is my clicking on a menu in the Cheese application.
I looked at the gconf-editor options for Cheese and did not see an option for this.
Any ideas on what is causing Cheese to take a photo right when opened and to continue doing so?
(this happens both on opensuse 11.2 and ubuntu 9.10)
