I agree. It's a very strong resemblance to motor-sport, and that'd be strange thing to associate with. I also can't help but reading them all as 3ST.
Yes i have also had this feedback, the other revisions were supposed to try and solve this.
I don't want to be negative here, but I don't think any of them are the right choice. I wouldn't wear a t-shirt with any of them on it, anyway.

What happened to the other designs that people at the gathering liked? The one with the water-wheel and the one with the arrows?
The designer can only focus on one at a time and this style seemed to generate the most attention, we could just settle with that one if people are happy? See also the original logo he designed which got denied by Tristan, i personally liked it, let me know what you think?
