Re: [Banshee-List] winamp popm rating tag - solution?

2013/7/4 qqu
New info: After adding "rating winamp com" and rewriting PopmToBanshee
function and another relevant parts of code, Banshee recognizes the tag and
show desired star values. Problem is, when you rate a new song, which hasnt
already rated in the winamp, it gets default banshee tag instead of
rating winamp com tag. Maybe i did mistake somewhere, so i will look at it
again. Another problem is certain value which represents number of stars in
popm tag. That value differ across programs. Media monkey uses scale 1-255
(1=one star, 255= five stars), winamp uses simply 1-5, Windows Media player
uses also 1-255 scale, but with diferent values for two, three and four
stars and so on. Banshee can sucessfuly read and transform that scales into
its own scale, but problem is additional rating, when tag e.g.
rating winamp com is updated in banshee scale. Winamp then has a problem to
again read right values. So this behavour disqualifies using banshee on a
NAS, because something you tag in a banshee will not be readable on windows
device in winamp.

Unfortunately, I think Banshee only imports ratings. Once imported, all the new ratings are applied by Banshee on its own tag. I think this is because one music file can contain more than one rating, from different players, because of the different ways of representing the rating values in the ID3 tags [1]. AFAIK Banshee doesn't export ratings for other players yet.
