I did some more research.
When an ipod nano 7g is initialized by itunes on OS X, it will put an hfsplus journalling file system on the ipod.
However, when you do the same thing from a Windoze iTunes, it will put a vFat file system on the ipod.
"Worse", when an ipod nano 7g, formatted by OS X is connected to a Windoze machine, it will report that it
can't handle the device and needs to reïnitialize it. What is Apple doing?!

Sorry, you're out of luck. Banshee uses libgpod to access Apple devices which does not
have (write) support for most newer Apple gadgets, see http://www.gtkpod.org/wiki/Libgpod
