For ripping CDs, Banshee uses MusicBrainz as the source for metadata, not last.fm.
Try installing "picard" (the MusicBrainz tagger tool) and check whether it agrees
with Banshee about (not) finding metadata for a particular CD.

Also, what's the version of Banshee you're using?
