For historical interest, in case anyone cares, this is because the service used to be just the scrobbling (not the radio as well) and was known as audioscrobbler. The name didn't stick but the phrase "scrobbling" did.
I think you mean scrobble. This is a term last.fm uses to mean the processes of recording the track information of the music that you play on their site. By knowing what you listen to, they can make recommendations for artists that you might like.
