I still have this serious issue trying to use banshee on xubuntu and I am
making any in-roads towards solving it - I'm going to recap the logging and
debug here but I think it needs some out-of-the-box thoughts on this because
I've been asking everywhere with no solution in sight.

Here's what happens when I click on a *.mov file:

Here's the output from totem, just this line repeated, although totem won't
play the sound and the picture simultaneously - either sound with black
screen, or silent pictures:
