[Banshee-List] no option to play or import CDs

Hello,
   I am running Banshee 2.4.1 on a Gentoo system and at some point the
option to play or import CDs has disappeared.  It was not working with
Banshee 2.2.1 but I cannot say if it every worked with 2.2.1.   I have
looked for a solution for this ,checked dependencies and re-emerging
packages but with no difference.  Banshee will pick my Sansa Clip+ which
suggest udev is working.  I can play a cd with VLC and grip, I have also
tried an external USB drive and that works with VLC and grip but not
Banshee.  Please let me know if I can provide any more information or
suggest log files to check as I could not find any errors.
