It looks like support for the Galaxy S3 has only been added recently
in libmtp, so it hasn't been released yet:

There's also a mention of a timeout issue between the time you plug in
the device and the time you connect to it through libmtp.
So you might want to try to first start Banshee, and then plug in your
device. I hope this helps.
