This was originally reported in
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=608243 but then appears to
still be an issue. I thought we tracked it down to either a Mono or
Ubuntu bug a couple weeks ago, but I can't remember/find where.

It should indeed have reported an error. Please file a bug about this.
