Hi,

I proposed a patch to the bug mentioned below, but it doesn't fix the
problem when encoding with VBR and LAME (CBR was having the same
problem, that can be fixed). It is not a Banshee issue, but must be
somewhere within the gstreamer encoder element (lamemp3enc) as I have
tested many many pipelines using only gstreamer tools (gst-launch) and
could reproduce this faulty encoding behaviour for all encoding
pipelines except the ones using definite constant bitrates (for more
information see my comments and proposed patch in bugzilla).

To come back to the initial issue: could you by any chance find out if
gstreamer has been updated in you update process that triggered the
behaviour? If so, could you find the old and new version? If you are
using Ubuntu there should be a history somewhere in the synaptic
package manager...
